Hey, you're in the vehicle / car zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Cars / Trucks / Vans Category: Windshield/Windows

Problem:

Windshield wiper blades chatter / cause noise.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

  • Appropriate glass cleaner, like Windex, Bon Ami or GM glass cleaner

  • Rags/cloths

  • Appropriate windshield washer fluid, like Rain-X Windshield Washer Fluid

  • Garden hose (hooked up to faucet for cold water use)

Solution:

If you find that your vehicle's windshield wiper blades chatter or otherwise cause similar noise when in use, it usually is due to the fact that your windshield has accumulated a lot of debris, including wax residue and insect remnants, which should be removed and cleaned up properly to cause such noises from the wiper blades to stop.  Follow the steps below:

  1. Remove visible debris, if any, found on the windshield that can be picked up with your hands.

  2. Apply a glass cleaner, per the product manufacturer's instructions, on the windshield, using rags/cloths to do this, all so as to wash off any remaining remnants of the debris.

  3. Apply windshield washer fluid, per the product manufacturer's instructions, with a cloth/rag, to wipe off any residue found underneath the blades of the wipers, too.

  4. Use a garden hose to wash over the blades, and any other part of the windshield you think necessary, with water.

That should get rid of the chattering noise coming from the windshield wiper blades
