Hey, you're in the vehicle / car zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Cars / Trucks / Vans Category: Windshield/Windows

Maintenance Issues:

How to select window wiper blades for the winter season.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

  • Windshield wiper blades (specially designed for the winter)

Guide:

In the wintertime, ideally, you will want windshield wiper blades that are able to do the necessary wiping without necessarily exposing their "interior" parts to the snow in the process so as to avoid damage and ultimate inoperability as a result of exposure to the harsh winter elements.  With this in mind, you should select windshield wiper blades that, as a matter of deliberate design, contain a rubber strip that prevents snow/sleet from coming into contact with the portions of the blades that function as wipers; because of this effective design feature,  wiper blades that have this design are designated as those for the winter.  Maintaining this rubber-strip buffer zone around the wiping parts of the blades will help ensure windshield operability throughout the winter season.

So, in preparation for the winter, seek the above-described winter windshield wiper blades (of course they can be left in place on your windshield and used long after the winter), or, if you care to make the investment, seek to purchase windshield wiper blades that are designated for all seasons (including winter), since such wiper blades will inherently include the above design or something similar to help you through your winter driving and much more.
