Hey, you're in the vehicle / car zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Cars / Trucks / Vans Category: Miscellaneous Informational Topics

Informational Topic:

Pumping gas is notoriously difficult or otherwise impossible, what's causing the gas pump nozzle to kick and effectively stop gas from entering the gas tank of the vehicle?

The Information You Need:

If you've parked your vehicle in front of an available gas pump at the gas station, paid for your gas to be pumped, then screwed off the cap of your fuel tank and stuck the gas pump nozzle into the gas tank outlet for the selected gas to be pumped only to find that it is notoriously difficult or impossible to pump gas into your vehicle without the gas pump nozzle repeatedly kicking in its stoppage of gas flow to the vehicle, you obviously have a problem with the fuel system of your vehicle.

What is causing the gas pump nozzle to kick and quit pumping gas into your vehicle is the result of the bubbling up of gas within the gas tank of your vehicle's fuel system.  This gas-bubbling is due to the inadequate or otherwise total lack of ventilation of the gas tank.  Ventilation is closed off usually by a vent line, stemming from the gas tank to the gas tank outlet where the gas pump nozzle is fed for the pumping of gas, that has gone bad either as a result of its kinking or being clogged somehow.  The end result: This vent line will need to be replaced.
