 Never Stop Improving - White

Hey, you're in the vehicle / car zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Cars / Trucks / Vans Category: Engine System

Maintenance Issues:

How to prevent moisture from seeping into the ignition module of your engine.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

  • Silicone caulk / caulking

  • Caulking gun

Guide:

In order to prevent moisture from entering the ignition module of your engine, moisture of which can cause severe engine damage, including stalling, there should be a seal around the edges and mounting holes of the ignition module.

If your vehicle does not already have this seal, you should not waste anymore time and do it yourself:  Take a silicone caulk tube, cut the opening of the long-nosed tip of the tube as appropriate (for the caulk to come out nicely when engaged; see caulk manufacturer instructions), and then place the tube in the caulking gun just before you engage the caulking gun.  Once the caulking gun is ready to go with the caulking tube loaded in the caulking gun and engaged, use the caulking gun to "caulk" the silicone caulking all along the sides/edges and mounting holes of the ignition module that are vulnerable to moisture penetration.

Once you've done that, and allow the caulk to cure per the caulk manufacturer's instructions, you have, in effect, made your own seal--for the betterment of your vehicle, and the betterment of your pocket, since you will not have to unnecessarily replace the ignition module with another one due to moisture exposure.
