Hey, you're in the vehicle / car zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Cars / Trucks / Vans Category: Engine System

Problem:

Engine that is already warmed up has difficulty starting.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

  • Engine carbon cleaner

Solution:

You would think that an engine that has already warmed up will not have trouble starting up in short order once again, but not so! In fact, a vehicle can very well have difficulty starting up even though the engine was previously warmed up from a recent ride.  The reason why is quite simple: Over time, carbon can accumulate in the vehicle's engine, progressively causing an increase in compression in a warm engine.  This sort of increased compression is what causes the warm engine's difficult startup because the compression hampers and belabors the starter that cranks the engine.

There are two solutions to this problem: The most expensive and time-consuming solution, short of replacing the engine with a new one, is to have the engine disassembled so as to completely rid the engine of carbon, methodically cleaning out each part of the engine.

The other solution, which should be tried first and foremost, is to use an engine carbon cleaner to remove any carbon buildup so as to permit a warm engine to once again start normally without any sort of difficulty; of course, read the operating instructions of the engine carbon cleaner manufacturer, and apply the cleaner as many times as are appropriate.  This engine carbon cleaner may be purchased at any automotive parts store.
