If you notice that your vehicle's engine is not exerting as much power as it used to or should, the following may be probable causes of this vehicle problem that you should consider checking:

  • The fuel filter may be dirty/contaminated;

  • The air filter may be dirty/contaminated;

  • The fuel system may be suffering from a leak;

  • The exhaust gas recirculation valve may be malfunctioning or otherwise the exhaust system may be hampered in some way;

  • The accelerator cable may be dirty/contaminated;

  • The alternator may be malfunctioning;

  • The engine valve timing may be incorrect;

  • The camshaft may be worn out; or

  • The engine compression may be low.

Any one of the above can be the cause of your vehicle's problem, so it would be best to pay attention to the above probable causes when attempting to diagnose and fix the problem.
