Hey, you're in the vehicle / car zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Cars / Trucks / Vans Category: Engine System

Problem:

Engine, with a carburetor system, stalls when braking.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

Solution:

When you apply the brakes of your vehicle while driving and the engine thereof consequently stalls, the cause of this problem may generally be centered around the engine's ability to generate power along with the ability for the brake power booster system to work properly.

Specifically, when the brakes are applied, the diaphragm of the vehicle's brake power booster may cause a vacuum leak, which makes the engine lose power in return; this occurs when the brake power booster diaphragm suffers from a crack/crevice.

Thus, among the tests that should be performed is a test on the booster's vacuum capability.  If the vehicle fails this test, its brake power booster should be replaced.
