Hey, you're in the vehicle / car zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Cars / Trucks / Vans Category: Engine System

Problem:

Engine camshaft fails.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

Solution:

The failure of the camshaft of your engine can be due to a variety of causes.  The following may be probable causes of this vehicle's problem that you should consider checking:

  • The camshaft may be suffering from not enough oil lubrication or is altogether not receiving the right kind of engine / motor oil in the first place (see the section on choosing the appropriate engine / motor oil for your vehicle);

  • The camshaft lobes and valve lifters may not be mutually aligned properly with one another, or are otherwise worn out; or

  • The camshaft, itself, was improperly hardened, and, in effect, is considered to be detrimentally soft.

Any one of the above can be the cause of your vehicle's problem, so it would be best to pay attention to the above probable causes when attempting to diagnose and fix the problem.
