Hey, you're in the vehicle / car zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Cars / Trucks / Vans Category: Emission System

Problem:

Exhaust odor in the vehicle.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

Solution:

Exhaust odor in the vehicle, which is specifically the smell of sulfur, is not only annoying, potentially harmful to your health, but also potentially in violation of applicable federal pollution-restriction acts.  The following may be probable causes of this vehicle's problem that you should consider checking:

  • The gas you're putting into your vehicle may not be appropriate, containing noticeably more sulfur than other gas varieties; or

  • The catalytic converter may be damaged or otherwise worn out to the extent it no longer contains enough nickel to counter the amount of sulfur found in gas.

Any one of the above can be the cause of your vehicle's problem, so it would be best to pay attention to the above probable causes when attempting to diagnose and fix the problem.
