Hey, you're in the vehicle / car zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Cars / Trucks / Vans Category: Brakes

Problem:

Brakes of a four-wheel drive vehicle rattle when applied.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

  • Appropriate front disc brake caliper bolt replacements

Solution:

It is not too unusual for there to be a rattling sound coming from the brakes of a four-wheel vehicle.  But, before focusing on the brakes, make sure the rattling sound is not coming from the suspension system and the vehicle's body, itself, when the vehicle is being driven.

Otherwise, a four-wheel drive that is usually used for off-road driving is bound to cause a lot of wear and tear with the brakes, particularly the caliper bolts of the front disc brakes.  With use, the front disc brake caliper bolts become worn out to the extent that the calipers vibrate as the vehicle is in operation.  Though this is often just an annoyance, you may have this rattling noise resolved by just having the caliper bolts replaced.
