Hey, you're in the vehicle / car zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Cars / Trucks / Vans Category: Alternator

Problem:

Alternator makes whining sounds.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

Solution:

An alternator, depending on the model, may be normal for it to "whine" a bit, but it shouldn't be severe.  You should speak with an automotive technician, or even the dealer that sold you the vehicle to see if any manufacture advisories have been issued to this effect, and short of seeking to have the alternator replaced, see if modifying the brackets that hold the alternator with cushioning devices (e.g., the use of insulation, rubber), should it be the cause of the problem, is an advisable option.
