Hey, you're in the storage zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Overhead Storage Hooks

Improvement Project:

How to use overhead storage hooks to help you store things.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

Guide:

Is your garage a mess? It doesn't have to be.  With some effort, you can really organize your garage with the amount space it provides already.  What one usually thinks of is what one can do on the ground of the garage to store efficiently, however, how about looking UP for the answer?  Yes, looking up to the exposed-rafter/beam ceiling of your garage opens up a whole new way of storing, using every bit of space you have available in your garage. You can use the beams up above to potentially hang light materials, like fishing rods, skis, shovels, rakes, etc.  (Do not load heavy material an 85-year-old woman wouldn't be able to carry up above, of course.) Beforehand, check with a structural engineer to make sure your garage ceiling (rafter/beams) can handle any such load.

The use of the beams will require either block wood to be added in between the beams so as to create the high-above-ground platform on which to place your items to be stored, or you may want to make self-made hooks that you can hang from your beams; these hooks can be made out of easily connectable and sturdy pipes, such as glued-on PVC pipes.
