Hey, you're in the home improvement zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Windows and Components Category

Problem:

Shade of window does not roll up.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

Solution:

If you find that your window shade does not roll up when you try to have it rolled up the usual way of gently tugging on it, you'll need to spend some time restoring the tension of this shade.

Restoring the proper operation of the shade can be done in a few steps, and here's how:

  1. Remove the the shade (the whole shade--its roll) off its hangar.

  2. Then roll up the shade approximately halfway by hand.

  3. Put the shad (the whole shade--its roll) back onto its hangar.

  4. Test the shade for tension: Pull it down as you normally would and try to see if it will roll up the usual way.  If the shade does not properly roll up still, take the shade off its hangar again and roll it up a bit more, and then reinstall it.

This is all that it should take to get the shade rolling up properly again.
