 Never Stop Improving - White

Hey, you're in the home improvement zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Telecommunication Lines Category

Problem:

Phone dial keys are dirty, gluey.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

  • Compressed air duster

  • Rubbing alcohol (denatured kind) (not for drinking, of course)

  • Foam q-tips/swabs

  • Phone instruction manual

Solution:

Caution:  Because phone wires carry a small amount of electrical current/voltage, before working on any phone, make sure the phone is disconnected from the phone interface box (that is usually located on an outside wall), and this includes disconnecting its phone wire from the telephone jack.

Over time, your phone has accumulated its share of dust and grime/dirt, and the keys may even have a tacky, gluey feel to them.  At this point, your phone is in real need of some cleaning.  First, as may be applicable, in following your phone instruction manual, carefully take apart the outer housing of your phone so as to be able to use a compressed air duster can to blow out all accumulated dust found in between the keys and other parts of the phone.  Next, take a foam q-tip/swab and dip it in rubbing alcohol (of the denatured kind, preferably), and then use this previously-dipped foam q-tip to immediately rub against and effectively clean all keys of their grime/dirt so as to make them lose their unsightly and uncomfortable tacky, gluey feel to them.  If you took it apart, be sure to put the outer housing of the phone back into place, per the phone instruction manual.

With a little effort, your phone dial keys will no longer be dirty, gluey and otherwise undesirable to be touched.
