How to install a new shower head.
Tools / Materials (See Below for
Over the course of the use of your shower,
you are bound to change out your shower head for a new, better one.
Installing a new shower head in place of the old
one can be done in a few steps,
and here's how:
First, remove the
existing shower head: Place an adjustable wrench over the
shower arm to hold it in place while you use your hands to take
off the shower head by turning it completely counterclockwise.
Once you remove the existing shower head, left exposed is the
beginning threads of the shower arm that you now must cover with
about 5 clockwise rounds/revolutions of Teflon tape/plumber's
tape in preparation to screw on the shower head replacement
Now, install the
shower head replacement: Per the shower head
manufacturer's instructions, install any gasket/washer in the
shower head, as may be applicable, and
then screw on this shower
head clockwise (in the same direction of the Teflon tape) onto
the shower arm threads.
Follow this up with the tightening of the new shower head:
Place an adjustable wrench over the shower arm to hold it in
place while you use your hands to tighten the shower head
replacement by turning it completely clockwise; be careful not
to over-tighten. (As may be necessary, then install any
shower head accessories, like a shower hose, per the shower head
That's what it takes to install a new shower head
in place of the old one.
