Hey, you're in the home improvement zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Doors and Components Category

Problem:

Door hinge pins are stuck and consequently too hard to remove.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

  • Long nail

  • Hammer

Solution:

When servicing a door, you may have to remove a door off of its hinges.  In so doing, you may find that the pins that attach the door to the hinges are stuck and seemingly irremovable.  Though, with some effort, you can remove even the most stubborn hinge pin.

Caution: When dealing with sharp objects, such as a nail, make sure you take precautions; read all product manufacturer instructions.

Removing a stubborn hinge pin can be done by inserting a long nail underneath the hinge that houses the stubborn pin.  With the long nail inserted in the opening underneath this hinge, use a hammer to hammer the long nail with force through this hinge opening so as to make contact with and drive out the pin from the top opening of this hinge. Repeat this nail-hammer removal process for each stubborn hinge pin.
