Hey, you're in the home improvement zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Doors and Components Category

Problem:

Door hinges are squeaky.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

  • Appropriate oil lubricant in a bottle with a spout (such as sewing machine oil or WD 40)

Solution:

When you hear your door hinges squeak, they are, in effect, screaming for lubrication.  To put an end to this squeaking sound, use some oil lubrication.

Lubricating the hinges is simple:  Point the spout of the appropriate oil lubricant bottle into the top opening of the hinge after moving the hinge pin slightly up with a putty knife and allow a few drops/spray squirts to seep down the hinge opening that houses the pin.  (See section on how to remove stubborn hinge pins, if necessary.)  Do this for all the door hinges.

Doing the above will silence the annoying squeaking sound to your ears' delight.
