Hey, you're in the appliance zone--YOUR HANDYMAN ZONE!

Satellite Dish Category

Problem:

TV is not getting any local network channels even though all satellite channels are coming in and working.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

  • Digital set-top box

Solution:

So, you have all the satellite subscription channels you wanted, but you soon come to the realization that, awkwardly, you have lost your television's reception to the most basic of all channels--local network channels.  What happened?

Well, oddly enough, you may have been negatively affected by the conversion of all local (over-the-air) channels to all-digital broadcasting as a result of the United States Congress's mandate under the Digital Television Transition and Public Safety Act of 2005.  For the majority, those who would lose the local network channels would be those without a subscription to satellite television, who are using an antenna (or "rabbit-ears antenna") to futilely attempt to receive the over-the-air analog broadcast of the local channels without the use of a digital converter box (or more technically a digital-to-analog converter box).

However, if you subscribe to satellite television (or even cable television) and are without the local channels, you are one of the few who are missing a crucial component to go with your paid subscription, and that usually is a digital set-top box.  Check with your subscription provider to see to it that you obtain this necessary device and have it properly installed in order to receive the local channels you've longed to continue to see.

So, when you are without the local network channels while having no problem receiving satellite channels, make sure you get in touch with your satellite subscription provider.
