Improvement Project:

How to properly plan for the installation of a satellite dish, some things to consider.

Tools / Materials (See Below for Applicability):

Installing a satellite dish on your property can do wonders to the expansion and quality of your television entertainment--giving you an enormous assortment of channels to satisfy virtually every television entertainment desire, from 24-hour news, international channels, sports around the clock to popular movies in demand, among other television entertainment themes; of course, satellite subscription packages vary, so be sure to choose one that suits your and your family's desires.  If it is carefully planned out, with minimal maintenance, you'll have a great satellite link from which to enjoy satellite television entertainment without a hitch.  What is more, an ever-increasing amount of satellite channels is getting even better with the incorporation of high-definition technology for added picture-perfect quality.

With the above in mind, particularly the need to perform a quality installation for minimal maintenance in the future, when specifically planning for the installation of a satellite dish, there are many aspects of a satellite dish installation that you must consider in advance, and they include the following:

  • Placement location.  What is key to receiving picture-perfect quality channels and no channel interruption whatsoever is the mounting of the satellite dish at an optimal location.  An optimal satellite dish location is one where a satellite dish can be mounted and be able to have a clear, unobstructed line of sight to the satellite (in outer space); no buildings, trees or other structures should come between the satellite dish and the satellite (in outer space).

Secondary to the above consideration of where the satellite dish should be placed and mounted is the ability for you to easily and safely access the dish at times to remove any debris that may come to be blown against it by the wind, and to remove any snow or ice that may come to accumulate on it.  Under this consideration, mounting the satellite dish on the side of the house or on a sturdy pole in the backyard may be good placement-location options.

  • Type of equipment.  To reap the maximum visual and audio quality of satellite television, you'll need a TV that encompasses available-to-use S-video, audio-video and RF inputs; of course, such inputs come standard with current TV sets, such as flat panel TV's, but you'll need to make sure that if you're going to use a relatively old TV that such an old TV includes such inputs for use in your installation of the satellite dish.

In addition to making sure that the TV you will be using for your satellite dish installation includes the above necessary inputs, you'll also need to make sure that your VCR and/or DVD has the necessary audio-video and RF inputs, S-video cables, and audio-video coaxial cables/lines.

Also, consider purchasing and applying a connector-coating product, such as dielectric compound, on all your satellite dish connections.  Such a coating compound enables the connectors and connections to better withstand the adverse elements that tend to deteriorate such connectors and connections; dielectric compound can be bought usually at wherever satellite dishes are bought or even at electronic stores and electrical supply stores.

These are just some of the aspects of satellite television you should consider when planning the installation of your satellite dish.
